What are Pocket Projectors

Pocket projectors are lightweight, portable, and very compact devices. These are ideal for personal as well as business and professional applications.

For example, you can use it at home to project a movie or photos on a wall, hence enlarge them and have a better view. For businesses, the portable device comes in handy for those small impromptu meetings comprising of only a few people. In addition, the small size allows professionals to easily carry the devices without the hassle and additional weight issues that traditional full projectors bring.

The pocket projectors are slightly bigger and heavier than the pico projectors, ultra-portable projectors, and micro projectors but provide a higher light output and hence better for the larger audience.

Talking of portable projectors, there are some, such as the pico projector, which can easily fit in the pocket and therefore ideal for professionals who travel and those who do not want to carry the traditional bulky projector. These are almost the size of a smartphone.

In the recent past, manufacturers are even integrating projectors into smartphones.

The product details of pocket projectors

Modern technologies allow the pocket projectors to work with laptops as well as other devices such as mobile phones and tablets. Basically, the pocket projectors have an average weight of between 0.75 and 1lbs (0.34 – 0.45 Kg) but some can go up to about 2lb or 0.9 kg and uses battery power, hence completely portable and convenient.

Pico projectors are the smallest in the pocket projectors category of products. These have the ability to give projections of over 65 inches. The modern pocket projectors provide between 200 and 800 lumens and at resolutions in excess of 1080p.

The devices rely on solid-state light sources such as the laser or Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). However, the majority rely on LED technology. Most of the portable projectors use DLP technology.
The majority of the pocket projectors use LED light sources and this ensures low power consumption in addition to a lamp life of about 30,000 hours.

The devices have a small footprint and ideal for applications that do not demand very high quality, otherwise, their performance is a bit lower than the traditional bulky full projectors. This is mainly due to the construction, low power design, and space limitations hence the inability to put many components. For these reasons, the project projectors require a bit darker rooms compared to the traditional full projectors.

In our next article, we will look at the pico projector and the best portable projectors in the market.
